Africa I am Gone

Africa I am gone
You pushed me away with your silence
At first I couldn’t understand why, but Allah’s plan was different from my own
My heart did ache. I was bewildered--like others who walked their own trail of tears
My heart did cry. I was overcome---like those who marched from Kumasi to Elmina
My heart did stop as I tried to hold onto a piece of you
I tried to understand why you would give such precious beauty away to savages of the unknown

Africa I am gone Revisited
Elmina to  Greenville to New York

You pushed me away with your silence
At first I couldn’t understand why, but Allah’s plan was different from my own.
My heart did ache. I was bewildered--like others who walked their own trail of tears.
My heart did cry. I was overcome like---like those who marched from Kumasi to Elmina
My heard did stop as I tried to hold onto a piece of you.
My mind did race trying to set things right---but your mind was settled and the wages paid.
I tried to understand how you could send your own away—to be marked for protection
I tried to understand why you would give such precious beauty to the savages of the unknown

Arrival -July 2, 2008
Daughter of the Sun
Daughter of the sun we beckon you home. Rise from your slumber and awake to your full potential
See all that you have been
See all that you are
See all that you will become
Daughter of the sun the drums beat for you. Awaken and remove the shackles of your mind
You have been free for some time, but you need to free your mind
Daughter of the sun... come let us receive your beauty
Let us behold your promise
Daughter of the sun...it is time to beat your own drum
I am here. Alhumdulillah.

Traveling Mercies
Behold the mercy of your lord
Perilous skies dost man travel thinking it is he who carries a bird of metal and bolts through the sky
This bird of laughable wonder to the most high rolls through his heavens by his leave
By his leave dost this bird transport man
By his leave dost this bird transport dreams
